Frequently Asked Questions
  1. How much does the program cost?
    • There is no cost other than typical school supplies: binder, paper, pencils, calculator, etc.
  2. What math classes are necessary before starting AP Calculus?
    • Preferably trig/precalculus. If the student has only had Geometry and Algebra II then they will need to take our crash course in trig during late July or early August.
  3. What times are classes?
    • The morning class is from 8:15am - 11:15am Monday through Friday
    • The afternoon class is from 12:55pm - 3:55pm Monday through Friday
  4. My student wants to have an easy senior year. Why should they take your program instead?
    • Much like a serious athlete wouldn't take their senior year off from practice, anyone with an academic future should not slack off their senior year. This is the year that colleges are evaluating you. Having OSSM on your transcripts will help the student stand out in a sea of applicants.
  5. Will taking these classes hurt their GPA?
    • We recognize that our classes are harder than the regular high school course. We scale our grades so that an 90% is an A, a 80% is a B and so on. This levels the playing field a bit so your student isn't penalized for challenging themselves.
  6. My student is not interested in math or science. How can your program help them?
    • Our students have a wide variety of career interests from fashion design to aeronautical engineering. All students benefit from learning how to study and gaining the confidence they'll need to succeed no matter what career path they choose.
  7. Can my student get college credit for taking your program?
    • While the students don't directly receive college credit for our program, they can get college credit by taking the AP Exams in May. They can earn up to 12 college credits depending on their scores and the college they go to.
  8. Can my student still be involved in sports, band, drama, etc?
    • Absolutely! Typically if the student has practice or meetings in the afternoon they will come to us for the morning session, then go to their home school for afternoon classes and meetings.
